About

Second Northcrest Sign (anecdotally a different sign was used in initial development phase)

Welcome to Northcrest Modern. This site is dedicated to the presentation of information involving the Mid-Century Modern style homes within the Northcrest Georgia sub-division and the surrounding areas. As a current resident with a love of Modern architecture and design, I was inspired to begin collecting information about this unique neighborhood.

As most of the original residents are no longer present, it has been a difficult task to discover historical information surrounding this great and unique neighborhood. My intent is to collect any information I may find and make it available to those interested.

Most recently I've expanded the catalog of Northcrest homes to include every home by address, using information provided by the GSU graduate group involved in getting Northcrest its Historic District status (so yes, there are homes that are far removed from the Mid-Century Modern esthetic).

A few Notes

  • Images and content: unless stated the images were taken by me, John Eaton, initially using a digital camera and moving progressively towards the iPhone with the image quality improving over time. Many of the images are quite old so please excuse any that are unfocused or have issues. I've lightened many of the images to better show details in shadow, thus some will appear washed-out and over-exposed.
  • Images that have a "GSU" tagline were taken by the GSU graduate group during the Historic District process. I've also grabbed some images via screenshots from Google Maps (left uncredited but dated).
  • Much of the content that categorizes various architectural styles within the neighborhood was determined by me but may be rooted in common neighborhood vernacular. In some cases (e.g. "The Doublestack") I just had a nickname and used it (sounds better than "Two-story Traditional" and "Plain; no Academic Style").
  • Going through the GSU files for the Historic District process, I found quite a few missing homes, images, and info that I don't agree with. I'm not sure of the process of getting things corrected when it comes to the Historic designation Contributing/Non-Contributing but if you'll contact me I can at least update the site with a note.
