Style 11 - Eichleresque - rendering by John Eaton |
I'm borrowing the term "Eichleresque" from the Georgia State Graduate group involved in the Northcrest Historic designation as it best describes the Style 11. An Eichleresque house typically features open floor plans, large floor-to-ceiling windows, post-and-beam construction, low-sloping roofs, a focus on indoor-outdoor living with atria or courtyards, clean geometric lines, minimal exterior detailing, and often has large windows facing the backyard with smaller windows towards the street, all contributing to a "California Modern" aesthetic The Eichleresque style can be found in either a ranch or split-level type but most I've seen in Northcrest are ranches, sometimes with a full basement.
Note that the Historic Designation designates the P&H Style 6 as Eichleresque - the NorthcrestModern designation keeps those homes separate since they have a specific P&H planbook style.
