Jack and Jill Bath from P&H Blueprints
|
I was asked recently about what defines a "Jack & Jill" or "Hollywood" bath. It's an interesting and unusual feature in many Northcrest homes. The concept is that the bathtub is enclosed on both sides with sliding doors, so it can be accessed from two different bathrooms. These are pretty much always found only on the second floor of a Northcrest home, between the main, hall bath and the master bath (more of a half-bath accessible from a corner bedroom).
As with much of this stuff, the term "Jack & Jill" has changed a bit over time - while the Northcrest solution is a survivor of the 1950's, the more modern idea is for the bathroom to have two doors, each to a separate bedroom. I'm not sure where the term "Hollywood" bath came from, but I guess if you keep both doors open you can sit and feel more exposed, for all the cameras trying to get a picture of you bathing.
Here's an intact example that I shot back in 1999.03.09:

Here's are other intact examples I've shot over the years (unfortunately only the Hall (full) Bath sides). These are all from Northcrest Hoe n' Hope Garden Club Tour of Homes:
