A-Frame Split-Level (12)

The historic A-Frame is a building type often used in the 1960’s and 70’s for vacations homes.  This design appears to have been modified for a number of houses in Northcrest. The A-Frame Split-level has a side section of the roof that forms the letter A in which steeply angled sides descend from the ridge and function as both a roof and a wall enclosure. This feature combines to create three levels reminiscent of the split-level with three floors and the A-shaped roof line adds a loft area.  Glass window panes or lights are a character defining feature in the A portion where the living room and loft space is located.  The bedrooms are one flight up and the recreation room is one flight below.  The front door opens into the main living area with stairs going up to the bedrooms and a set of stairs going down into the recreation room.  Between the kitchen and living room is a set of stairs that lead to a loft area making it four levels.  They often have carports attached opposite the A-Frame.
