Contemporary (436)
Most
of the houses in Northcrest were designed in the Contemporary style.
Identifying features include a low-pitched gabled roof, wide overhanging
eaves and exposed post and beam roof construction. Generally, the
Contemporary style is expressed without ornamentation. (3648 Eaglerock
Drive, built 1960; 3506 Beachhill Drive, built 1965) In Northcrest, most
of the houses feature a board and batten veneer on the exterior siding,
(3567 Beachhill Drive, built 1965). Natural materials such as stone and
wood may be applied to add warmth, but the form is the most important
element of this style. Many of the houses in Northcrest feature a
pergola above an outdoor seating area between the front door and
attached carport (3232 Lynnray Drive, built 1969). In some instances,
the pergola features bubbled skylights to enclose the roof of the
structure, (3343 Archwood Drive, built 1965.
Wright-Influenced
A
subtype of the overarching Contemporary style, the Frank Lloyd
Wright-influenced house style includes shallow, almost flat roof lines
with wide, overhanging eaves, and contrasting use of brick with organic
materials such as stone and wood. This style does include ornamentation,
seen in geometric patterning of the solid faces of exterior walls and
voids of window and floor-to-ceiling glass to create a sense of interior
privacy.
